This book is amazing and challenging.
As a (now long since retired) basketball player, listening to the stories of Jordan and Kobe were awesome.
What makes this book intriguing is the discussion around Grover's Cooler, Closer, Cleaner labels. Read the book for yourself for the details but be warned that there is some non-trivial language warnings -- not for an audible drive in the car with the kids.
If you have some hard-to-describe ambition within yourself that sometimes may even scare you, this book is a great resource for some perspective. As a Christian, I need to navigate these ambitions with humility and not a little caution, recognizing that not all ambition and drive is healthy. Like many books, this offers a model for viewing the world in which we walk.
Some books are "one and done" -- this is not one of them. It is part entertaining, part motivating, part, well dangerous. I am reminded of the day we lost in the playoffs my sophomore year in high school. I went home and shoveled the driveway so I could practice some more. [ btw, I have always been a bit envious of those who can play outside year round....]
