New ideas are out there -- and every day someone is working on the next big thing.
If your ambition is to have an outsized return, work on something that no one else is working on. However, recognize that this is the Venture Capital (VC) model. If successful, you can really hit it big, however the odds are certainly stacked against you. Know this going in.
I personally prefer to operate in a mild state of imbalance. Yes, you heard that correctly. The balanced life is of course a more healthy one, however there are seasons and areas where a little imbalance is what I have found it takes to get things over the goal line.
One way in which this works is in cultivating and incubating ideas.
Rather than burning the ships and focusing on one thing, I prefer to stand up an operation and then use the momentum from that venture to inform and fund subsequent experiences. I am no Elon Musk or Peter Thiel, so feel free to disregard this advice. But, I do sleep pretty well at night, thankfully.
